Category: Racing Round Up

Round two of the US Cup went down in Fontana this past weekend with a new winners in pretty much every category.

Under extremely windy and dusty conditions on Saturday, the Pro cross country race was held on a challenging course featuring 1000 ft of climbing per lap on the short 4.5 mile course. The feature of the course dubbed "The Wall" by the racers was a straight 750ft climb to the clouds and had to be climbed 5 times during the mens race before a quick descent and another climb up the paved road to the water tower. After that it was single track heaven until the last mile of the course.

Conquering the elements, Todd Wells avenged his bad luck from last year to break the string of victories by previous winner Jeff Kabush.  Wells continued his excellent form form last year to take the victory over Kabush by a bike length. The Womens race also brought new podium renters with Norwegian Lyne Byberg taking the women's win over a late charge by ultra marathoner Pua Sawicki.
